People who stays in our guesthouse, often don’t understand who I am, what I am doing. :-)
a few answers first: “yes, I created this guesthouse 10 years ago and I am managing the place with doing the bookings, the organization of your stay” “No, I won’t be there, you will be in akha life with no white ;-) people around” “Yes, you can write in french, english, german, danish or thai ;-)” “N, they don’t speak french over there, they speak only english, thai and akha” “No, they don’t know how to write or read english” “yes, I do this only because of love for my akha family” But this is not enough to explain the project i guess :-) I arrived in this village in 2004 for a summer holiday I felt in love with the life over there. It was like I had always been living there. I came back for 6 month in 2005 and after 5 month living there, I had the dream of making other people experience this beautiful akha way of living. I wanted them to be able to come and stay a few days. I shared this dream with Jems and his family. They agree straight a head and we started in nov 2005, after the harvesting of the rice. Jems had learnt how to speak a little bit of english during my stay and I knew that anyway even without the language, it would be possible. Ada (the father) was an expert in building akha houses. There was enough space around the house. The project started. We built houses, bathroom, stairs, fences etc... making the space more and more cosy and beautiful, years after years, every time I would come back there. The entire profit has always been for the family, that’s why you will also pay directly Jems on your arrival. By making this dream come true, this was enough to fulfill me. I had no financial interest and invested all my savings to build the place. Jems and his parents (and now wife and kids), would have a better income and would balance their work in the field with meeting some foreigners, showing their culture and thereby keep it alive. That’s my story (made short) with my beloved Akha family. After Denmark, I live in Singapore, I am music teacher and manage everything from there. We work together since 10 years, like brothers and sisters. |
